The purpose

The City of Hobart manages the wet forest areas of Wellington Park bordering the community of Fern Tree. The objectives of management include provision of recreation infrastructure, improvement in biodiversity values and the management of risk posed by bushfire.

The City is seeking to engage with the community, particularly residents of Fern Tree, to help understand the risk of major bushfire. The City has progressively applied recommendations of the Tasmania Fire Service and has established fuel breaks close to houses in the dry eucalypt forest areas in other reserves. The wet eucalypt forests of Wellington Park pose a difficult challenge in major bushfire events. The application of the fuel break recommendations will require careful planning and engagement before works begin.
