How is the current budget spent?
The City of Hobart adopted its 2025-26 budget on 30 June 2025. It promises to deliver a strong focus on balancing financial challenges, prioritising existing services and infrastructure, and delivering a range of projects that will position the City of Hobart as a thriving place to live, work, visit, study and invest. In this financial year, the City has committed to spending just over $180 million on delivering services for our community.
Some of the key changes to the new budget include:
- Rates revenue: 3.5 per cent increase
- Operating Budget: $183.9 million
- Underlying Surplus: $1 million
- Surplus: $16.5 million
- Australian & State Government grants totalling: $19.2 million
- Capital works program: $36.8 million
As well as delivering services, the budget allocated funds to manage the city effectively. This includes governance structures, employee services and training, information and technology.

Fill out our brief survey and let us know how you feel the City of Hobart budget should be allocated. We want to hear from you to help ensure that next financial year's budget (2026-27) considers the needs of the community, local businesses and individuals.

What will happen with my feedback?
All feedback will be assessed alongside the City of Hobart's strategic priorities and considered in the context of the overall budget. There are a number of factors that impact budget decision making, including:
- Inconsistency with the City’s priorities
- The submission is outside the scope of services provided by the City
- Further work is required to develop the submission for it to be ready for consideration
- Further analysis on the proposed costs may be required
- The proposal is beyond the financial capacity of the City.
