Creative City Strategy

Wellington Court

What is a creative city?

Culture and creativity is not just about paintings, books or music, but also our traditions, stories, and how we find joy together in everyday life. Everyone in Hobart contributes to the culture and creativity of the city.

The City is writing its first Creative City Strategy, and we want to hear from you to help shape itwhether you go along to festivals, music and theatre, head to the markets on a weekend, or join a local community choir. Your say matters.

So, what do you think makes Hobart a creative city? And what should the City's role be in supporting and strengthening the cultural and creative life of our community?

Have your say by completing the survey below.

The purpose of community engagement for this project is to:

  • Generate opportunities for community members to give thoughts and opinions;

  • Discuss and understand the role that events and venues play in the creative life of the city;

  • Identify exciting and innovative opportunities for Hobart’s creative industries to thrive.

Creative City Strategy

We are developing a Creative City Strategy that brings together arts, culture, events, activations and venues across the city.

The purpose of the strategy is to understand more clearly how the creative life of Hobart can be nurtured by the City of Hobart.

Throughout this period, we will be conducting broad engagement as well as targeted engagement with the sector and stakeholders.

How to have your say?

There are multiple ways we are reaching out to the community between October 30 and November 21 November 2025.

Share your thoughts about creative life in Hobart and what matters most to you, and our community using the survey link below.

  • Attend our public conversation online or in-person

Attend our face-to-face public conversation on Wednesday 12 November, 12pm-1.30pm to share your thoughts in person. This will be held at a venue at the City of Hobart. For those who can't make the in person session, you can share your thoughts via an online conversation on Tuesday, 18 November, 5.30pm-7.00pm. To book attendance at either of these sessions, go to our Humanitix page.

  • Postcards from the future

As part of the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery School holiday program, there will be a free session for families and children to explore the role creativity plays in our city. It will be held on Friday, October 10, 10am-1pm. To find out more, go to the TMAG School Holiday Program page.

Add photos and comments about the creative places you visit in the city to our idea wall! It could be anywhere- streets, building, open space. We want to see what you think makes a creative city.
