City of Hobart is constructing a bridge across the Tasman Highway, from the Cenotaph to the Domain. The bridge will provide a shared pedestrian/cycle way, connecting the Cenotaph and Regatta Grounds with the rest of the Queens Domain.
The bridge needs a name and the Council resolved in its meeting on 23 October that it would ask the community their preferred name for the bridge from the following three options:
Bridge of Remembrance
Legacy Link
Peace Bridge
During November the community had their say on the three names and at the end of the consultation process the name 'Legacy Link' is the one the most favoured.
City of Hobart will now submit the name 'Legacy Link' to the Nomenclature Board of Tasmania for their consideration at their December meeting. After examination and if the proposal is approved, formal notice of the Board's intention will be published in the Tasmanian Government Gazette and made available on the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE) Government website for a month.
The bridge across the Tasman Highway is being funded from the ANZAC Centenary Public Fund. Construction will commence in late 2017 and works will be finalised by 11 November 2018. There's further information about the bridge on our website.
