The South Hobart Oval and Park Draft Master Plan went to the Hobart City Council on 19 February 2024. At that meeting, Council resolved to defer the South Hobart Master Plan until the new Dog Management Policy had been completed.

Project background

The City of Hobart has released a draft master plan for South Hobart Oval and Park. The draft master plan has been written following extensive community consultation.

The final plan will guide future upgrades to the oval, basketball and tennis courts, park space and play areas while ensuring cultural, environmental and social values are upheld and improved.

Listening to the Community

To finalise the Master Plan, the City of Hobart asked the community for their thoughts on these recommendations. This engagement took place from 28 August 2023 until 29 September 2023.

The recommendations captured in the Draft Master Plan have been broken down into the three below areas. You can read about these recommendations in the Draft Master Plan on the specified pages:

  • The oval precinct – map 3.1 on page 33; recommendations on page 37
  • The playground and community hall – map 3.2 on page 34; recommendations on page 40
  • The basketball court – map 3.3 on page 35, recommendations on page 42

How we engaged

Engagement Round 1

Our first round of engagement included a survey, the South Hobart Oval and Park Survey, where we asked community members and stakeholders their general thoughts on using the oval. Things like how they use it, how they get to and from the oval, and what they value most about the oval (to name a few).

Engagement Round 2 (28 August - 29 September 2023)

In the second round of engagement, we asked the community to give feedback on the Draft South Hobart Oval Master Plan. Things like what recommendations are most important and how the Master Plan frames and addresses the conflict over use of the oval.
