What is the Southern Tasmania Regional Land Use Strategy?

The Southern Tasmania Regional Land Use Strategy (STRLUS) is one of three land use strategies in Tasmania. The STRLUS is a broad policy document that will facilitate and manage change, growth, and development within Southern Tasmania over the next 25 years. It provides comprehensive land use policies and strategies for the region based upon development within Southern Tasmania.

Whilst this Land Use Strategy arises from a joint initiative between State and Local Government (the Regional Planning Initiative), it is intended that it be a permanent feature of the planning system, monitored, maintained and reviewed regularly over time. This document forms part of an ongoing process of regional land use planning across the State that will ensure the policies and strategies remain relevant and responsive. There is now a review underway.

What is the new State of Play document?

The State of Play document summarises available data and information on a range of issues to understand the key issues and influences in the Region and the causes of growth and change. It addresses what we know from past experience, what is currently happening, and (for some issues) projections of what may occur over the next 25-30 years.

This document plays an important role in the current review, and we invite the City of Hobart community to take a look. You can share your feedback by completing the survey through the link below.

Where does the Southern Tasmania Regional Land Use Strategy apply?

Southern Tasmania encompasses the twelve local government areas of: Brighton, Central Highlands, Clarence, Derwent Valley, Glamorgan Spring-Bay, Glenorchy, Hobart, Huon Valley, Kingborough, Sorell, Southern Midlands and Tasman.

How to get involved?

Residents of all twelve councils will be able to participate in a collaborate engagement process led by an external partner Capire. Each council will be playing a role in sharing key dates and links to where to find key information and how to get involved.

The State of Play report, ways to be involved and updates will be made available for residents of all councils. For more information access Shaping a Positive Tasmania.
