Hobart Urban Tree Strategy
Can you help make Hobart a greener, healthier and more beautiful city by taking part in our Urban Tree Strategy survey?
Our current Street Tree Strategy has reached the end of its life and needs to be renewed. This is the perfect time to review the successes of the current strategy and start planning for the future.
Despite the huge successes the City of Hobart has achieved in the ongoing planting, care and maintenance of trees, one of the key strategic milestones of the current strategy - 40% urban tree canopy cover by 2046 - is an outstanding goal.

Community feedback on the development of a new urban tree strategy will help the City of Hobart:
Identify a new vision, themes and actions for the next five year Urban Tree Strategy.
Clarify emerging issues and opportunities that have surfaced since 2017, particularly in relation to suburbs with a low urban tree canopy, and help us understand why community people are not planting trees on their own gardens.
Our Current Canopy Cover
Of particular focus in the development of a new urban tree strategy is the need to address the loss of tree canopy cover across Hobart, and to grow more trees in suburbs where the urban tree canopy is low.
For example, South Hobart and Lenah Valley have an urban tree canopy cover of 60 per cent or more.
But in North Hobart the urban tree canopy cover sits at just 9 per cent. New Town 15 per cent and Hobart 9 per cent. The City of Hobart has officially launched the development of its new Urban Tree Strategy, and wants to hear from you. With 89% of the actions in the 2017 City of Hobart Street Tree Strategy now complete or ongoing, we are reaching out to the community to help us set the direction for the new strategy.

Urban Tree Strategy 2025
The City of Hobart's new Urban Tree Strategy 2025 will reflect public sentiment around how we can reach our goal of increasing the city's urban tree canopy to 40% by 2046.
This is an exciting opportunity for community members of all ages to come together, celebrate and reflect on our love of trees and how we can prioritise tree planting and care over the next decade.
There is also the opportunity for community members to receive their own tree to be planted in their own garden as part of efforts to grow Hobart's urban tree canopy.
