Why is the City of Hobart engaging online?

Your Say Hobart is an online tool the City of Hobart uses to engage with the community and gather feedback to inform the Council's decision making.

We have refreshed our approach to community engagement and while we will continue to engage using more traditional methods including face to face information sessions, workshops and forums; Your Say Hobart offers the community an opportunity to participate online.

What are the benefits of engaging online?

Engaging online allows you to have a say in the Council’s decision making process in your own time and comfort:

    • You don't have to attend sessions in person, you can contribute at a time and place that suits you.
    • It is a quick, safe and convenient way to have your say on a range of projects, issues and topics.
    • It is a great way to keep up to date and contribute your views on issues affecting your community.
    • You can see what other community members think about a project, issue or topic, respond with your own views and engage in a discussion.
    • It allows for a range of different people, with different views to discuss matters that impact on their community.

    Why should I register?

By registering, you will receive regular updates about new engagements and ways to get involved.

You will also receive regular updates on how your contributions are helping shape the future of Hobart and receive important updates, for example, if a submission date is extended.

Feedback for all Council projects, initiatives and activities are open to everyone. You can also opt out of the email mailing list at any time.

    How do I register?

To register, simply click Register in the top right hand corner of the home page.

When prompted, create a Username and Password of your choice, provide a valid email address and the location in which you live.

If you leave a comment, it will be posted alongside your username so if privacy is a concern for you, we recommend that you create an anonymous username.

If you have previously registered, simply click on the Sign In button located on the right hand side of the top tool bar.

How do I submit my feedback?

Your feedback can be submitted via the online forums, quick polls and surveys relevant to each of the projects currently open for engagement. To participate, simply register and start sharing your ideas and comments.

If you would like more information on a particular project, you can contact the relevant officer responsible. Their contact details are in the Who's listening section of each project.

What happens to my feedback? Will my views be listened to?

All comments, ideas and suggestions are collated and used by the relevant officers to inform the development of strategies, projects, programs and activities, or to gain an insight into community views and opinions.

Online feedback is usually used in conjunction with other face-to-face engagement activities such as workshops, meetings, onsite walk and talk sessions, or surveys.

When each engagement closes, all contributions are compiled into a report, which is presented to Council when considering the matter.

While all feedback provided as part of an engagement is considered in the Council's decision-making process, this does not mean that every suggestion can be taken on board and adopted as proposed.

How is Your Say Hobart moderated?

All moderation is carried out by Your Say provider Bang the Table and is independent of the City of Hobart. The moderators do not edit or alter any comments and will only remove comments deemed to be significantly off topic, offensive or malicious, in which case they are removed from the site immediately.
