The City of Hobart is looking to endorse the draft Domain Athletic Centre Master Plan and is seeking community feedback on the proposed concept design.
The Domain Athletic Centre is the state's premier athletics facility and is highly utilised by the general public and key user groups including Athletics Tasmania, Athletics South and numerous schools in the Hobart area. The City of Hobart owns the site and lease the administrative building to Athletics Tasmania. The Centre was built in 1977 with the main building updated in 2001, the public toilets updated in 2018 and the track surface replaced to international standard in 2016.
The proposed master plan involves upgrades to the facility including:
installation of a warm up track
new changerooms
indoor multipurpose training centre
new grandstand seating
a new function centre; and
expanded car parking (within the existing Domain Athletic Centre footprint)
The proposal is currently unfunded and indicative estimates put the potential cost of the development in the order of $12m. The draft Master Plan was presented to the Parks and Recreation Committee on 12 September 2019 and presented to Council at its meeting on 23 September 2019. The Council has endorsed the draft Master Plan for the site to allow key user group and wider community engagement to be undertaken.
The City is currently seeking feedback from the community, including local residents and regular users of the Domain Athletics Centre.
