What is a green open space?
Green open spaces include a range of different spaces. These cater for a wide range of passive and active recreation and leisure activities. These spaces play an important role in the health and well-being of our community and environment. These include:
The City of Hobart manage all of these different open spaces. Currently, the City manages over 100 parks and reserves, including 56 playgrounds; 4200 hectares of bushland, including over 250 kilometres of tracks and trails; and 21 sportsgrounds.
How will my feedback be used?
By completing the survey and providing us feedback on what you value about Hobart's green open spaces, you will help ensure that future planning and management of these spaces reflect what our community wants and needs.
If you choose to upload a photo and a story of your favourite open space using our interactive map, you give the City of Hobart permission to publish your photo on our social media pages.
Prizes and T&Cs
We're excited to be offering a number of great prizes as a part of this project. We have two opportunities for engagement and each attracts its own prizes. In order to go in the running to win one of these prizes, you will need to provide us with your email address so that we can notify you. If you give us your email address, we will send you updates on this project but won’t send you anything else. Prizes available are:
4 x family passes for the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre (family of 4, max 2 adults) valued at $24.60 each.
1 x Guided Dorney House Tour (for 2 adults) valued at $20.
2. Interactive map - top 5 photos and stories
1 x Family Guided Nocturnal Bush Walk (2 adults and up to 3 children) run by City of Hobart Bush Adventures Program valued at $36.50. Please note: this tour is available during autumn and winter school holidays. The best photo and story will receive this prize.
5 x potted indoor plants from the City of Hobart nursery. Assorted varieties in a 250mm pot - varieties may include Philodendrons, Spathyphyllums and Ficus (Rubber Plant). Valued at $30 each.
5 x Ducks of Tasmania booklet valued at $20 each.
Terms and conditions of entry
1. The Promoter is the City of Hobart, 50 Macquarie Street, Hobart Tasmania 7000 ABN 39 055 343 428.
2. Entry into the competition is deemed acceptance of these conditions of entry below.
3. The engagement period for the Open Space Hobart project commences on Monday 26 February 2024 at 9.00 am (EST) and will conclude on Sunday 24 March 2024 at 12.00 pm (EST).
4. Prizes will be awarded as outlined above, which will be announced and available for collection/distribution in April 2024.
5. All prizes must be taken as offered and no exchange is available. Prizes are not redeemable for cash and are not transferable to any other person.
6. For the survey, the prize/s draw will be randomly selected. For the interactive map (photos and stories), the prizes will be determined by our panel of judges and the winning entries will be emailed and announced on City of Hobart social media in April 2024. Winner's names will be published by the Promoter.
7. The winner is required to provide proof of identity when they collect their prize.
8. The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
9. People under 18 can still enter the competition but it’s important that your parent or care giver knows you are entering and that you are giving us your email address. Please only enter if you have their permission.
10. Employees of the City of Hobart and their immediate families are eligible to undertake the survey and/or enter a photo and story, but cannot be part of the competition to win prizes.
11. All City of Hobart employee entries must tick YES when prompted by the survey / interactive map questions.
12. Only residents of Tasmania are eligible to enter this competition.
13. The Promoter reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any entry in the competition.
14. The Promoter takes no responsibility for the condition of items supplied by various businesses as prizes for the competition.
