Sandown Park - Leasing of Public Land

The City is currently assessing all submissions received during the comment period and a report will be prepared for the Council’s consideration on whether a lease will be approved, taking into account the comments received.


The City of Hobart has received an application from Optus to lease a small section of public land located at Sandown Park, Sandy Bay. The proposal requests a new ten year lease, in order to install a telecommunication cabinet close to the existing Telstra Tower.

The matter was considered by the Council in July and pursuant to the Local Government Act 1993, the City is seeking feedback on the proposed Optus lease by the close of business on Monday 4 September 2017.

In considering the outcomes for this consultation the Council will need to weigh public feedback alongside a range of matters including the potential negative impacts of the telecommunications coverage in Sandy Bay and neighbouring areas if the lease was not supported.
