Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our engagement process on the Parks and Recreation Asset Management Plan. We have collated the . engagement results from the survey which are now available for you to read in the Community Engagement Summary Report on the project's Your Say Hobart page. This feedback will be used to inform the development of asset management plans in the Parks and Recreation area, which will prioritise the maintenance and upgrades of our much valued parks, green opens spaces, and outdoor community sporting facilities.

Project Background

The City of Hobart is developing a new Parks and Recreation Asset Management Plan that will guide the effective management of the City’s parks and recreation spaces (excluding bushland areas) over the coming years.

An asset management plan is a document that aims to inform decision makers on current and future funding requirements for maintenance and upkeep of our parks and recreation assets at a certain standard for the enjoyment of Hobart's residents and visitors. Asset management plans also exist for other Council managed infrastructure including roads, footpaths, buildings, and bushland infrastructure such as tracks and trails. These will also be reviewed in the coming months. For the purposes of this engagement we want your feedback specifically on parks and recreation assets.

A key objective of the new plan is to ensure fit for purpose and cost effective parks and recreation infrastructure and service levels that meets community needs and expectations. The new plan will define the services to be provided, how the City will deliver these services, and the funds required to provide the services.

Hobart's Parks and Recreation areas

The City of Hobart manages an extensive network of parks, green open spaces, outdoor sporting facilities and playgrounds that are essential to the local community. These spaces provide numerous health, lifestyle and social connectivity benefits for residents and visitors to Hobart.

The City's Parks and Recreation assets comprise of:

  • City and suburban parks within the Hobart Council area
  • Park furniture including benches, BBQs and picnic shelters
  • Sporting fields and infrastructure
  • Landscaped and ornamental garden beds
  • Irrigation/Drainage
  • Street Trees
  • Public Toilets
  • Playgrounds

(Note: This definition excludes the City's much loved bushland reserves and natural areas such as Wellington Park, the Queens Domain, and Knocklofty Reserve which are defined as "Bushland Reserves/Assets" and fall outside of the scope of this plan).
