Hobart City Vision Project

Hobart: A community vision for our island capital was endorsed by the Hobart City Council on 23 July 2018.

The document will set the City’s ten-year Strategic Plan and will be used as the basis for all activities and decisions for years to come.

The Vision was created in collaboration with community members and stakeholders between September 2017 and June 2018. Over 1100 contributions went into the project, through 214 one-on-one interviews, a City Forum, online surveys, pop-ups, and workshops with key stakeholders and Hobart students.

The draft vision document was open for community engagement from 29 May to 25 June 2018. The report to Council which includes the results of the engagement can be read in the Finance and Governance Committee Meeting Agenda from 17 July 2018, pages 192 - 317.

  • Background Information

    Since September 2017, the City of Hobart has been working with Hobart community members and stakeholders to draft a new vision for the city.

    This vision will help the City of Hobart understand more about the city that Hobart communities want to work, live and play in. The vision, once finalised, will guide Council's work into the future.

    The project is near completion, and these were the major stages (you can read more about each in the Key Dates section)

    • Only in Hobart: blog posts based on interviews with 214 people from across the city
    • City Forum: a two-day workshop attended by 116 people
    • Wider engagement: including a survey in the City News, which received over 500 responses
    • Stakeholder engagement: including workshops and opportunities for written submissions
    • Community Panel: a group of 46 community members and business people who deliberated on the findings from the previous stages of engagement and helped draft the new vision

    The draft vision, Hobart: A Community Vision for our island capital, was shared during May/June 2018 with the wider and the community were invited to comment . The comment period iclosed on 19 June 2018.
